The Pulaski County Special School District Board of Education approved an $11 million construction project for College Station Elementary. With construction starting this month, the on-site storm shelter that had often been used by local residents during heavy thunderstorms or tornadic activity will not be available. While we know the community has depended on this building during storms, the site will not be safe for the public during construction. The College Station construction project is expected to be completed by April 2027.

PCSSD Board of Education recognizes two outgoing members

Two members of the Pulaski County Special School District Board of Education were recognized during their last regular monthly meeting on March 10, 2026.

Tina Ward and Eli Keller both exited the board this year after serving 10 years.

Ward and Keller were presented with a Resolution for Service from the district, which read in part, that they “contributed valuable leadership and insight in areas such as policy development, fiscal oversight, curriculum improvement, facilities planning, community engagement.”

After being presented with the resolution and the “Apple of Service,” Ward and Keller made some brief comments.

“I always stood with integrity. I fought for just about everybody on what is right. I wanted everybody to be treated equally, from the janitors and custodians to the bus drivers, all the way up to the teachers. I feel like they all should be treated because they all make an impact on our children every day,” Ward said.

“My time on this board has been enlightening, not just for me, hopefully, but
for some of y’all,” Keller said. “I see so many people that I started with – Mr. Senn, Ms. Isaac – people who were in the trenches now being leaders, building administrators. I couldn’t be happier for you.”

Ward served Board Zone 2, and Keller served Board Zone 6. Both served from 2016 to 2026.

🎓 AVID Wednesday Spotlight: WICOR in Action! ✏️📚

The foundation of AVID techniques is the WICOR framework — Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading — and it was on full display at Sylvan Hills High School.

In Mrs. Bridges’ history class, students explored industrialization and its impact on countries worldwide. After reading about the topic in class, they dug deeper through research, organized their findings into visual models, collaborated on large‑scale posters, and used inquiry to understand how global events shaped the modern world.

👕 Don’t forget to wear your college or career shirt tomorrow and celebrate the strategies that help our scholars think critically and dream big.

It’s National School Breakfast Week, and you don't have to try green eggs and ham like Mrs. Neal's class. 🍳 Breakfast is FREE for every single student in PCSSD starting this school year!

According to the School Nutrition Association, students who eat breakfast are more likely to:
📈 Reach higher achievement levels in reading and math
📝 Score higher on standardized tests
🎯 Have better concentration and memory
🏃‍♂️ Maintain a healthy weight and stay alert

We are proud to fuel our students' minds and bodies! Way to go, Mrs. Neal and Sherwood Elementary, for this fun memory. #PCSSDProud #ServeAll #NationalSchoolBreakfastWeek #ReadAcrossAmerica

PCSSD is currently reviewing for potential changes with the agreement, and the district will be considering other options for the next school year.
