Districts from across Arkansas gathered at Camp Robinson to celebrate the state’s newest Purple Star School Districts and recognize schools that demonstrate exceptional support for military‑connected students. 💜⭐

PCSSD was recognized on Tuesday, alongside other districts, for its newly designated Purple Star Schools. Representing the district:
-Mills University Studies High School JROTC presented the colors.
-Joe T. Robinson High School student Kate Mitchell performed the National Anthem.
-Military liaisons from multiple PCSSD schools were honored for their essential role in helping the district achieve Purple Star status.

The event also marked the start of Month of the Military Child, with Arkansas now supporting more than 240 Purple Star Schools statewide. Thanks to Act 501, Arkansas is one of only two states with fully enacted, DoD‑aligned policies for military students — placing the state among national leaders in military family support.

This celebration highlighted the commitment of educators, staff, and community partners who work to ensure military‑connected students feel supported and welcomed. Most importantly, deep appreciation goes to the veterans and military families whose service and sacrifice make this work meaningful. 💜

The Pulaski County Special School District Board of Education approved an $11 million construction project for College Station Elementary. With construction starting this month, the on-site storm shelter that had often been used by local residents during heavy thunderstorms or tornadic activity will not be available. While we know the community has depended on this building during storms, the site will not be safe for the public during construction. The College Station construction project is expected to be completed by April 2027.

PCSSD Board of Education recognizes two outgoing members

Two members of the Pulaski County Special School District Board of Education were recognized during their last regular monthly meeting on March 10, 2026.

Tina Ward and Eli Keller both exited the board this year after serving 10 years.

Ward and Keller were presented with a Resolution for Service from the district, which read in part, that they “contributed valuable leadership and insight in areas such as policy development, fiscal oversight, curriculum improvement, facilities planning, community engagement.”

After being presented with the resolution and the “Apple of Service,” Ward and Keller made some brief comments.

“I always stood with integrity. I fought for just about everybody on what is right. I wanted everybody to be treated equally, from the janitors and custodians to the bus drivers, all the way up to the teachers. I feel like they all should be treated because they all make an impact on our children every day,” Ward said.

“My time on this board has been enlightening, not just for me, hopefully, but
for some of y’all,” Keller said. “I see so many people that I started with – Mr. Senn, Ms. Isaac – people who were in the trenches now being leaders, building administrators. I couldn’t be happier for you.”

Ward served Board Zone 2, and Keller served Board Zone 6. Both served from 2016 to 2026.
