Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to bring you an update on the status of bus drivers and routes for the Pulaski County Special School District.
For at least the last year, PCSSD has experienced a continued shortage of bus drivers for the district. We have worked tirelessly throughout the summer to recruit, hire, and retain drivers. At present, the district employs 96 drivers, with a need for at least 20 additional drivers. We have seven individuals who are undergoing training to become a PCSSD driver; however, even with those hires, the district would still be in need of another 13 drivers. Filling these roles will take time, but PCSSD is dedicated to doing so.
With almost half of our students riding buses daily, we know that this shortage has created a hardship for some students and families, and some students have had longer wait times for buses. We want parents to know that we are concerned about these issues and are working to rectify this situation.
As we move forward, we will continue recruitment and retention efforts to increase the number of drivers to accommodate our nearly 12,000 students who travel to and from school, to field trips, sporting events, and other activities.
Thank you all for your continued support of and dedication to our PCSSD students.
Respectfully,
Jeff Senn
Superintendent
