PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. -- PCSSD is proud to participate in AVID Day on Friday, September 12, joining schools and districts nationwide in celebrating the transformative power of education and opportunity.
AVID is Advancement Via Individual Determination, and AVID Day honors the remarkable efforts of educators who are closing the opportunity gap—and celebrates the students who thrive because of AVID strategies. It’s a day to recognize the real, lasting impact of AVID on student achievement and life trajectories.
Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde honored PCSSD by declaring September 12, 2025, as “AVID Day” in Pulaski County, Arkansas, with a proclamation presented to Superintendent Jeff Senn, Assistant Superintendent Janice Warren, Deputy Superintendent Sonya Whitfield, and PCSSD AVID coaches Renea Smith and Amy White.
“AVID is dedicated to closing the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society,” Hyde stated. “AVID is a nonprofit organization that believes every student can live a life of possibility.”
For more than 45 years, AVID has worked to close the opportunity gap in education and transform lives. This nationally recognized nonprofit empowers educators to equip all students with the skills, support, and confidence to thrive in college, careers, and life.
Here in Pulaski County Special School District, AVID is making a powerful difference. More than 1,300 students in grades 6–12 are currently enrolled in the program. Last year, our graduating AVID seniors collectively earned over $3.7 million in scholarships, achieved a 100% graduation rate, and celebrated acceptance into colleges, universities, the military, and career technical training programs.
