PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. – During a special board meeting on January 2, 2025, the Pulaski County Special School District Board of Education and superintendent Dr. Charles McNulty agreed to conclude their relationship.

The board of education met in executive session for about an hour to discuss “employment of an employee in a public office.” Upon conclusion of the executive session, action was taken to vote on a separation agreement. Dr. McNulty will resign from his position as superintendent effective January 2, 2025. He will continue to receive payment for the remainder of his contract which ends on June 30, 2025.

"I'd like to thank PCSSD for allowing me the time to serve as superintendent," said Dr. Charles McNulty. "I am so proud of the achievements our students and professional staff have accomplished over the last 6.5 years."

The board entered a second executive session which lasted approximately two hours. Upon conclusion of the second session, Dr. Jerry Guess was named interim superintendent. Dr. Guess previously worked for PCSSD when the Arkansas Department of Education appointed him to the position. He served as superintendent from 2011 to 2017.

“I’m excited to be back in PCSSD,” said Dr. Guess. “I look forward to working with the staff to bridge the gap over the next six months to finish the school year on a strong note."
