PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. – Juneteenth, the holiday which commemorates the end of slavery in the US, is coming up on June 19, 2024. Here are several events for PCSSD students and their families to join the celebration.
Juneteenth in Da Rock
This event, hosted by the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, starts with a 5K that takes runners past many of Little Rock’s African American historical sites. A day-long street festival follows, complete with an indoor Education Center and STEAM-themed Kids Zone. Food, vendors and live music will round out the event.

Juneteenth Arkansas Festival
Families can also celebrate Freedom Day at the Juneteenth Arkansas Festival. This event will kick off with a parade at 1 p.m. starting on Arch Street and ending at the main venue, First Security Amphitheater. Festivities will include a kids zone, games, vendors, food, music and more.
Special student-centric activities include a coloring contest where students can download a coloring sheet to color and bring to the festival for a free gift (while supplies last). PCSSD high school students can also apply for the Juneteenth Scholarship to go toward higher education.

Juneteenth: Faith and Freedom Documentary Film Screening
Older PCSSD students can take a deep dive into the history of Juneteenth by attending a screening of the documentary Juneteenth: Faith and Freedom. Showings will be held at CALS branches and are presented in partnership with Arkansas PBS and Juneteenth In Da Rock. The film is recommended for ages 12 & up.

Juneteenth at the Little Rock Zoo
The Little Rock Zoo is honoring Juneteenth with a special, day-of celebration. All visitors will receive a $2 dollar discount on entry.
